PowerTrunk Obtains Type Approval for Tetra Subscriber and Mobile Units in North America

New York City, NY — December 7, 2010 – PowerTrunk™ Inc., a global leader in Land Mobile Radio (LMR) design, manufacture and implementation has been granted authorization from the FCC and Industry Canada for its TETRA HTT-500 subscriber unit and its MDT-400 mobile unit to operate in the 409–470 and 806–870 MHz bands. These type approvals follow the approval of the PowerTrunk TETRA BSR75 base station radio/repeater earlier this year.

“Once again, PowerTrunk is assuming a leadership position with the introduction of TETRA land mobile radio to the North American market,” said Jose Martin, COO of PowerTrunk. “Our complete TETRA solution is ready to deploy and fully interoperable with any other TETRA products sold around the world. We encourage users to evaluate the advantages it offers over existing land mobile radio alternatives in North America.”

TETRA is deployed worldwide as the next-generation standard for digital land mobile radio. Until now the exception had been North America, where TETRA technology has not been permitted. The stated reason for the ban has been that TETRA could not obtain type approval given noncompliant emission masks that might interfere with adjacent channels. To comply with North American requirements, PowerTrunk modified the modulation in its TETRA BSR75 base station radio/repeater and its TETRA HTT-500 and MDT-400 units. This modification has inconsequential impact on operational performance as the structure of services and protocols are unaffected and functionality remains the same.

Timco Engineering, a telecommunications certification body of the FCC’s Office of Engineering and Technology and Industry Canada, first tested compliance for the PowerTrunk TETRA BSR75 base station repeater and now for the PowerTrunk TETRA HTT-500 subscriber unit and the MDT-400 mobile unit. Certifications for the FCC and Industry Canada have been issued for all the aforementioned equipment.

PowerTrunk’s TETRA implementation in North America is fully compliant with the ETSI TETRA standard as the minor modulation modification still allows full interoperability with any TETRA equipment from any vendor. The PowerTrunk TETRA products pass 100% of the TETRA Interoperability Profiles (TIP) as defined by the TETRA Association (TIPs can be downloaded from www.tandcca.com/).
