PowerTrunk Announces ISSI Upgrade for its P25 Land Mobile Radio Infrastructure
New York City, NY —August 16, 2009 – PowerTrunk™ Inc.a global leader in Land Mobile Radio (LMR) design, manufacture and implementation, announced today a Project 25 Inter-RF Subsystem Interface (ISSI) software upgrade to its PowerTrunk25 LMR infrastructure. PowerTrunk25 users will maintain network connection when roaming onto other P25 land mobile radio systems.
The PowerTrunk25 ISSI implementation is simple and elegant due to the infrastructure’s end-to-end Ethernet IP architecture. Because there is no need for conversion or transcoding, it is not necessary for agencies to purchase or install the ISSI gateways required by non-100% Ethernet IP networks. For PowerTrunk25 users this represents higher reliability, easier scalability and lower hardware costs.
“The PowerTrunk25 infrastructure system has been designed from the start for internetwork operation. Its native IP infrastructure has allowed us to develop an efficient ISSI interface that enhances users’ ability to reliably interconnect with disparate networks,” said Jose Martin, COO of PowerTrunk.
PowerTrunk will demo the ISSI upgrade at the APCO tradeshow in Las Vegas. The demo will be monitored by the ISSI Test Tool (ITT) developed by ITS/NIST-OLES (Institute for Telecommuni-cation Sciences and National Institute of Standards and Technology – Office of Law Enforcement Standards). The ISSI Test Tool allows public safety users to ensure that systems they purchase satisfy the applicable standards developed for ISSI. For conformance testing purposes, ITT emulates a P25 ISSI, exercises the protocol defined in the ISSI standard, and implements all of the ISSI conformance test cases developed by TIA. For more information about the ITT, please go to https://p25-wireline.dev.java.com or contact Kameron Behnam, [email protected].
P25 ISSI enables a superior level of public safety communications by providing a common standardized interface connecting multiple disparate trunked P25 networks at the network layer. Radios and networks from different manufacturers can safely transmit digitally encrypted voice over the ISSI interface. Users will be able to roam beyond their coverage area across unconnected networks without losing connection with their home network and dispatchers – a significant improvement in wireline interoperability. Now dispatchers can monitor and maintain communications with users even while they are roaming.
The PowerTrunk25 infrastructure system is a secure and reliable network with distributed switching, distributed intelligence and complete fault-tolerant redundancy. Our patented IP bandwidth utilization method allows users to optimize the quality of their voice and data applications. Designed for cost-effective scalability, the PowerTrunk25 network easily expands from a single site to nationwide using less equipment than the alternatives. The ISSI interface adds one more capability to this already feature-rich infrastructure.
